Maaskade Bevrachters is looking for a Technical Superintendent for our inland waterway tankers, which transport food products, mineral products, and chemicals. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for the barges assigned to you, ensuring that maintenance, repairs, and certifications are properly prepared and carried out.

As a Technical Superintendent, you oversee the technical condition of your barges. You plan maintenance, assess malfunctions, and organize necessary repairs. In doing so, you coordinate activities with the crew, shipyards, and suppliers, while keeping a close eye on safety, costs, and the vbarges's operational availability.
Based at our office in Zwijndrecht, you will also regularly visit the barges and shipyards. Whether dealing with an unexpected breakdown or a scheduled dry-docking, you ensure that it is clear what needs to be done, who will carry it out, and when it must be completed.

Your responsibilities include:

• Planning and monitoring preventive maintenance via the Planned Maintenance System (PMS);
• Assessing technical malfunctions and organizing support and repairs;
• Visiting and inspecting barges, and following up on technical findings;
• Preparing and overseeing dry-dockings and major repair projects;
• Drafting work specifications, comparing quotations, and monitoring quality, schedules, and costs;
• Preparing and managing annual technical budgets, and reviewing requests for spare parts, fluids, and external services;
• Ensuring compliance with applicable technical requirements, classification society rules, and relevant certifications;
• Contributing to the investigation of technical incidents and following up on measures to prevent recurrence.

You possess a technical background, gained through formal education and/or relevant work experience, and have a solid understanding of how marine installations function. You are capable of assessing technical issues, setting priorities, and organizing tasks, even when a breakdown necessitates changes to the schedule.
You are someone who:

• Has experience with technical maintenance, repairs, or barge management within the inland shipping sector, preferably including tanker operations;
• Possesses knowledge of onboard mechanical and electrical systems, such as engines and deck machinery;
• Is able to prepare, coordinate, and oversee maintenance and repair activities;
• Can evaluate technical specifications and quotations, while maintaining a cost-conscious approach;
• Is familiar with relevant regulations and classification society requirements or is keen to further develop this knowledge;
• Works independently, takes responsibility, and ensures that commitments are met;
• Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively with crew members, colleagues, shipyards, and suppliers;
• Strong communication in both Dutch and English. Proficiency in German is an advantage, and you should be willing to take a language course if necessary.

You become familiar with the barges under your responsibility and maintain direct contact with the crews who operate them. You will balance addressing immediate, urgent issues with long-term maintenance planning. You ensure that maintenance is prepared well in advance and that crews are kept fully informed of what to expect.
