Naomi Schouten has been working for the Maaskade Group since December 2016 and has developed over the years from planner and charterer to co-owner and charterer at Maruna Bevrachting. With her broad experience in various parts of the group, she knows the dynamics of inland shipping inside out. In her role, she combines commercial insight, operational involvement, and a strong connection with skippers, customers, and colleagues.

What appeals to Naomi most about her work is the enormous variety. No two days are the same: from busy office days filled with phone calls and emails to visiting ships and customers. In addition, the work regularly requires quick thinking in unexpected situations, such as blockages on waterways or technical problems. It is precisely this dynamism and direct contact with the sector that make the work so appealing to her.

Personal and professional development is actively encouraged within Maaskade Group. Naomi was given the opportunity to take various (international) courses and further expand her knowledge and network. Her ambition to continue growing was taken seriously, which ultimately led to the establishment of the Dutch dry cargo division. Maruna Bevrachting has been a reality since 2022, where she is co-owner and charterer.

Despite the size and diversity of the Maaskade Group, Naomi feels a strong sense of connectedness. The group consists of several independent entities, but joint activities and short lines of communication maintain the family atmosphere. It is precisely this combination of professionalism and warmth that makes the Maaskade Group a place where she feels at home. Her advice to future colleagues: be yourself, dare to ask questions, and take the time to find your place—then the rest will follow naturally.
